The Last Week of 2016

We've had a pretty relaxed break so far.  Interestingly enough, Ellie's break didn't start until Christmas Eve, so she had this week off and has the first week of January off as well.  That meant that she didn't really get to spend a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa until Christmas, but she made up for lost time.

It was a great visit with them and I applaud myself for not making my mom sick when gluten is pretty much airborne in my house.. haha.

Tuesday through Friday of this week, Ellie had a yoga camp that she thoroughly enjoyed.

I thoroughly enjoyed when the kiddos decided to wear matching Superman shirts.

And when they played nicely together ;)

I also thoroughly enjoyed when everyone wanted to give our new vacuum a whirl.

Clark surprised us by being open to the idea of potty training this week.  Of course, he did it his own way.

Aaaaaaand has decided it's not that fun and he no longer wants to do it, so that's something we'll continue to work on in 2017.

I don't want to have to talk about it, but a week ago, we weren't sure if Penny would see any of 2017.  Right before Christmas, we took her to the vet because she hadn't been eating well, has dropped weight, and has been sleeping quite a bit.  The vet did blood work and an x-ray and it showed that she's anemic (among other things) and has a mass in her abdomen,

which we can pretty much assume is cancerous.  The vet really didn't seem optimistic that her quality of life would continue much longer.  She let us give Prednisone a try though to see if we could spur her appetite a little and make her feel a little stronger and it has actually done quite a bit for her from what we've seen.

So long as she looks this bright eyed and is showing interest in life, we can't imagine ending it.  Unfortunately, the Prednisone can also lower some immune responses, and she developed an infection in her mouth on Friday,

See the lopsided jowls?

which we treated with antibiotics.  The swelling has already gone down quite a bit and she hasn't seemed bothered by it in the least, so for now, we'll just keep her comfortable and happy and enjoy her while she enjoys being with us.

Ok, now I have to end this year on a happy note.  These two crazy kiddos of ours - they might drive each other insane, but I could watch them play and help each other out all day.  I truly hope to see more of this kind of love and joy not just from them, but from the world in 2017.

Christmas 2016

Christmas morning came bright and early as it does with these little people, but first things first - pancakes and bacon

and obligatory pictures!

Aaahhhhhh, tears.  Ok, back to the present and the presents!

I'd say the biggest winners of the day were the train engineer costume

a new LeapPad game,

and puzzles for Clark.

And for Ellie, it was Legos,

Legos,

Legos.

Which is good, because she got a LOT of Legos.

Both kiddos were pretty happy with the trampoline we gave them.

The rest of the day was pretty laid back since Ellie was still battling her cold.

It was our first Christmas with snow on the ground, which made it a little more magically for sure.

The most magical part of Christmas though?  Seeing it grow and change through these guys each year!
